Ferrater trained at the EINA School of Design. He began his career in the 1970s, contributing to magazines such as Donna, Harper's Bazaar, and Glamour. During the 1970s and 1980s, he worked in Italy and other fashion capitals like Paris, London, and New York. He produced editorials and advertising campaigns for renowned magazines including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Telva, Donna, and Big Magazine, and collaborated with prestigious brands such as Armand Basi, El Corte Inglés, Andrés Sardá, Nike, Loewe, and Lacoste.

He has photographed models and celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Mónica Bellucci, Bar Rafaeli, Claudia Schiffer, Orson Wells, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Amber Valletta, Inés Sastre, Bimba Bosé, Judit Mascó, Jon Kortajarena, and Tony Ward, among many others.

The Ministry of Culture acquired over 20,000 photos for the collection of the Museum of Costume in Madrid. This institution also dedicates an exhibition to him in 2024, thus highlighting his influence and legacy in fashion photography at both national and international levels.

Known for his transgressive, dark, ironic, and sensual style, Ferrater excels in close-up portrait photography and in creating complex images. He has remained true to his own concept of photography, ranging from gritty and challenging to optimistic and playful, always with a focus on the strength of his predominantly black and white images.
