LAB36 presents Homes en revolta, a site-specific intervention by Italian artist Andrea Mastrovito (Bergamo, 1978), conceived for the historic Galeria SENDA room at the Círculo Ecuestre, as part of By Invitation 2026.
Drawing on literature, collective memory and Barcelona's history of resistance, the project explores the power of images and words as instruments of political and social transformation.
At the heart of the installation is a triptych composed of 16 wood-inlay panels integrated into the room's existing bookshelf. Through this architectural dialogue, Mastrovito transforms the library into a space of reflection, where books transcend their material function to become symbols of knowledge, dissent and emancipation.
The intervention is accompanied by preparatory drawings and carved blackboards, extending the artist's investigation into the relationship between drawing, materiality and storytelling. References to writers and thinkers such as Albert Camus and Charles Baudelaire, alongside the visual legacy of Francisco de Goya, inform a practice in which historical narratives become a means of questioning the present.
Mastrovito's multidisciplinary work moves between drawing, collage, installation and animation, frequently challenging the boundaries of traditional artistic media. His projects combine meticulous craftsmanship with monumental ambition, revealing how images can articulate complex social and political narratives.
With Homes en revolta, the artist invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between culture and resistance, and the enduring capacity of art and literature to challenge established narratives.
